BURNET — The Burnet Summer Concert Series has not only become the hottest ticket in town but has also grown in support and demand among concertgoers across the state.
The event — about to launch its fifth year — was voted Best Community Event in the Burnet area in The Picayune’s Locals Love Us contest.
Organizers from Double Eagle Entertainment said the response since it debuted in 2013 has put the community on the map as a top music venue.
“I credit it to continued support from the community,” event organizer Damon Beierle said. “They’re showing that they love what we’re doing and they want more of it, and we’re going to provide it as long as we can.”
In its fifth season, the summer concert series has grown not only in support but in the level of artists and crowds the event attracts.
Musicians have included Aaron Watson, Wade Bowen, Kyle Park, Stoney LaRue, Cory Morrow, Whiskey Myers, and Granger Smith as well as several local supporting acts.
“We focus on Texas and Red Dirt artists who write and play their own music and bring real life experiences to audiences,” he said of the talent, which involve at least two musical acts monthly from May through August. “It makes memories.”
The crowds also help provide an economic boost to the community.
“We draw people from miles around,” Beierle said. “The hotels are full. Restaurants are busy, and concertgoers are happy.
“The support the Burnet Economic Development Corporation provides is essential to the success of the series,” he added.
The EDC provides money for the event, in part, to help defer the cost of entry.
Haley Nelson Amphitheater, a city of Burnet venue, has become a popular backdrop for the series.
“People are comfortable with the venue, and they have fun,” Beierle said. “It’s a family-friendly atmosphere with acts that normally you’d have to drive to Austin to see.”
Each year, the much-anticipated lineup generates even more interest than the prior summer season.
“People want to know who’s playing this year. I’m constantly asked who’s going to play this summer,” Beierle said. “We will be announcing the 2017 lineup on April 1.
“It will be bigger and better than it’s ever been,” he said.
