It’s about that time of year for a grape stomp: Harvesting season in the Hill Country has begun!

Throughout the month of August, vineyards and wineries across the Highland Lakes are inviting the public to lend a hand (and a foot!) in picking grapes and stomping them into wine.

Participate in any (or all) of these harvests and grape stomps:

Westcave Cellars Winery

Join the “Purple Feet Club” and learn a thing or two about wine at Westcave Cellar’s 9-acre vineyard and winery.

Westcave Cellar is hosting a grape stomp at the vineyard from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. The free event is family-friendly. The grape stomp will feature two live bands and catered barbecue.

Garrett Been, director of Hospitality and Sales, said his favorite thing about harvest season is seeing people get into the stomping barrels for the first time and teaching them the ins and outs of the process.

“Giving people better education and knowledge about the harvest and how we turn it into wine is one of the better parts of the event,” he said.

Westcave Cellars is located at 25711 Hamilton Pool Road in Round Mountain. Call (512) 431-1403 or go to for more information.

Fall Creek Vineyards

The second-oldest winery in all of Texas has been hosting grape stomps for 28 years now. Join its annual Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival on two days: Saturday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 26.

Both days of the festival include a host of activities to celebrate the harvest season, from grape stomping and bocce ball to a boat cruise on Lake Buchanan.

There will also be celebrity chef lunches prepared by renowned chef Jay Hunter of Horseshoe Bay Resort and tastings with winemaker Sergio Cuadra.

Reservations are required for lunches, wine tastings, and boat tours.

Fall Creek Vineyards is located at 1820 CR 222 in Tow. Call (325) 379-5361 or go to more information.

Flat Creek Estate

Enjoy the Harvest Vineyard Tour and Dinner at Flat Creek Estate every Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. through August starting July 14.

A tour guide leads wine enthusiasts through the vineyard and discusses the progression of the grapes, vineyard growth, pruning, and more. Guests will be able to sample grapes straight off the vines as they walk through the vineyard.

Fine dining on a three-course dinner (with wine pairings, of course) follows in The Bistro at sunset.

Advance reservations are required. Select a date online.

Flat Creek Estate is located at 24912 Singleton Bend East in Marble Falls. Call (512) 267-6310 or go to for more information.
