The annual Llano Crawfish Open features big names in Texas music and plenty of crawfish.

LLANO – What started as a simple “thank-you” from Cajun hunters has grown into two jam-packed days of fun that earned it the 2015 Locals Love Us award for favorite event in the Horseshoe Bay/Llano/Kingsland area.
The Llano Crawfish Open began in 1989 as a charity golf event that ended in some good eating. The initial money raised went to buy a motorized wheelchair for a man with multiple sclerosis.
Contributions have since gone to other local charities.
The 26th annual Llano Crawfish Open was April 17-18 at Robinson City Park, 100 Robinson Park Drive about two miles west of downtown Llano off FM 152.
To satisfy everyone’s appetite, organizers order more than 15,000 pounds of Louisiana crawfish. The Llano Crawfish Open features lots of other food, too, including a supporting cast of barbecue, jambalaya, potatoes and corn.
Crawfish are only part of the fun. The two-day celebration features games, golf, some running, motorcycles and, yes, music, especially music.
This year’s lineup featured Dale Watson with Amber Digby on April 17 and Kevin Fowler with Dub Miller on April 18. Past acts have included Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Asleep at the Wheel and Mark Chesnutt, to name a few.
