Take a scenic drive on the Highland Lakes back roads

Take a drive along a back road during bluebonnets season.

The beauty of the Highland Lakes abounds along the highways and byways. You’ll find adventure waiting for you down many of the area roads. While we enjoy the convenience of our major highways, the best views are sometimes found by pulling out a good map and taking a back road.

One nice drive, on a well-maintained road, is a trip south of Bertram on FM 1174 back to RR 1431. If you’re a bit more adventurous, cut off on Cow Creek Road (or CR 328) and enjoy a little more leisurely tour.

Another nice drive is taking U.S. 281 south of Marble Falls to FM 962 and heading east to the community of Cypress Mill. Then turn south on CR 301 (also called Cypress Mill Road) and wind your way back to U.S. 281.

All you need is a map (even Google Maps) and a little cruising in your soul to discover a place you’ve never seen before.
