Hamilton Pool Preserve, the Hill Country’s most beloved swimming hole, reopened this month with new safety features.

The historic grotto reopened May 1 after two drownings last summer led to the closure of the pool and a thorough re-evaluation of the pool’s safety features by Travis County Parks officials.

New safety features include a life jacket kiosk, where visitors can borrow a life jacket free of charge along with a lesson on how to use them.

There are also life rings situated around the pool for swimmers.

There are no lifeguards on duty at Hamilton Pool, so swim at your own risk.

Follow these safe swimming tips:

  • If you are not a comfortable swimmer, do not enter the water without a lifejacket.
  • Don’t swim when you’re exhausted. Keep in mind the sun takes a lot of energy out of you.
  • Don’t drink alcohol before swimming (though alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited at Hamilton Pool).
  • Don’t leave children unattended at the pool. Keep an eye on them at all times.

Visit this pristine oasis this summer. Be sure to make a reservation before you head out.

Hamilton Pool Preserve is located at 24300 Hamilton Pool Road in Dripping Springs.
