Highland Lakes taco hotspots

The challenge of compiling a Highland Lakes taco trail is not the quality, it's the quantity. So many local establishments — restaurants, food trucks, gas stations — offer great tacos. This is Texas, after all.

This list is by no means complete. The featured taco hotspots are only a handful of our favorites that passed the authenticity and substance tests:

  • Is the main ingredient — beef, chicken, pork, etc. — deliciously seasoned and cooked to perfection? Check.
  • Is the tortilla homemade and not greasy? Check.
  • Does it pass the filling test? Is more filling left than taco? Check.
  • And — maybe most important — does the taco hold up bite after bite? Check.

Not in the running were breakfast tacos and established restaurants (they're established for a reason, so no point in judging, right?)

The chosen locations are traditional sit-down restaurants and food trucks. Some are only open for breakfast and lunch or closed on certain days. Some only accept cash. Click the links or call the numbers for more information.

(COVID-19 precautions: Call ahead for takeout options. Hours might be affected.)
