Marble Falls LakeFest hits the water May 21-22
LakeFest on Lake Marble Falls starts the Southern Drag Boat Association's 2022 season on Saturday-Sunday, May 21-22, at Lakeside Park, 305 Buena Vista Drive in Marble Falls. Gates open at 7 a.m. each day. Racing takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The qualifying races are on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday.
A free Show and Shine, where fans can see the boats up close and meet drivers and crews, is 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J South.
At least 100 boats in all categories are expected to compete, according to race organizer and SDBA Director David Carroll, including the stars of the event, the top fuel hydro boats, which can reach speeds of up to 250 mph.
“We have two top fuel teams coming this year, and it’s been a number of years since we’ve had that,” he said. “These are the boats everyone loves to see go down the lake.”
The SDBA series has five races plus the season finals in September in September and the nationals in November. Racers at the Marble Falls event will be competing for qualifying points.
General admission tickets for LakeFest race days for ages 13 and older are $30 each day and include a pit pass to Johnson Park.
