Tejano star David Lee Garza opens Burnet Concert Series
The Burnet Concert Series opens with one of the most beloved Tejano performers in the state.
David Lee Garza y Los Musicales take the stage Saturday, June 15, at Haley-Nelson Park with special guest LaDezz. Gates open at 6 PM, and the music starts at 7:30 PM at the park, 1624 Buchanan Drive. General admission is $15 plus a $5 cooler fee. The event is BYOB.
The series is put on by the city of Burnet and Double Eagle Entertainment.
Double Eagle Entertainment producer Damon Beierle and other organizers were so encouraged by the turnout of last year’s Tejano Night, featuring Michael Salgado, they decided to hold another one.
“It was a huge success last year,” Beierle said. “Everybody wanted more concerts more often in this genre. We love to bring it back. This is something I think will stick.”
Just like last year, Beierle asked the opinion of friends who are fans of Tejano music about a headliner for Tejano Night. He knew he wanted to follow Salgado with someone who had an equal presence on stage.
“David Lee is a classic draw,” Beierle said. “It’ll be a fun experience. We knew that we needed to do a big recognized name. He was in the budget, and we pulled the trigger.”
Beierle first encountered Garza a decade ago, just after he co-created Double Eagle Entertainment. Back then, he saw what fans have come to appreciate and love about the musician: songs that connect and express joy and happiness.
La Dezz is a popular opening act for Garza, and Beierle said younger Tejano fans will enjoy the trio as much as Los Musicales.
While concertgoers can bring their own beverages, food trucks will be on site to sell all sorts of cuisine.
Up next in the series is country star Kevin Fowler on August 3.
