There’s only one place in the Highland Lakes you can spy a dromedary camel, a royal yak, and a red kangaroo all together — on a tour of Exotic Resort Zoo in Johnson City.

Exotic Resort Zoo is once again offering guided tours. The resort was open but only for drive-through tours in person vehicles due to COVID-19 safety restrictions. Starting Oct. 13, the facility began providing offering guided tours on its trams.

Guided tours are only available Monday-Friday. Folks can still drive through in their own cars on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Exotic Resort Zoo also opened its petting zoo and picnic area on weekdays, though not on holidays.

The zoo's trams are running with about half the filled seats of pre-COVID-19 tours. Face coverings are required on the guided tours.

Exotic Resort Zoo, located at 235 Zoo Trail in Johnson City, is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets for both guided and drive-through tours are $16.95 for ages 13-59, $13.95 for ages 12 and younger; and $15.95 for ages 60 and older.

The zoo is located about a mile north of Johnson City off of U.S. 291. Visit the zoo’s website or call 830-868-4357 for more information.
