MARBLE FALLS — Falls on the Colorado Museum is seeking two donations for exhibits: a Navy uniform and a vintage wood stove.

Like all donations to the museum, these contributions would be formally recognized and tax-deductible.

"We looked everywhere for these,” museum director Darlene Oostermeyer said, “but purchase prices are outlandish, even on (auction sites), so we are turning to the community for help."

The museum is planning a military exhibit that will launch on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. That also marks the 99th anniversary of the Armistice ending World War I.

“We need the sailor’s suit because we have the other branches covered,” said museum board member Charles Watkins. “It’s our way of honoring the veterans.”

Museum members hope someone has a uniform they no longer want or wish to donate so visitors can get an up-close and personal look, Watkins explained. They’ll accept a uniform from any era but prefer one from World War II.

The museum used to have a wood stove, but the family that loaned it to the facility wanted it back. The stove was part of the museum’s electrical exhibit.

Since the stove will be part of an exhibit, the museum has precise dimensions for the one it needs. It should be 36 inches wide from side to side, 20 inches in depth from front lip to the wall, and 50 inches high from the floor. No stove pipe.

“They were sold for smokehouses,” Watkins said about the stove. “It’s an antique in demeanor, and people would like to have them for their own things. We looked at all the stoves in the area and can’t find one.”

Watkins couldn’t emphasize enough how badly the museum needs these items.

“Those are the things we need that we really don’t have the resources to go out and buy on the open market,” he said. “This is our need for things to improve the museum. We’re hoping people don’t want them and are willing to give them out.”

To discuss a possible donation, call the museum office at (830) 798-2157.

Go to the museum’s website at to obtain a donation form.

The Falls on the Colorado Museum is located in the Old Granite School at 2001 Broadway in Marble Falls. Hours of operation are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
