Free Christmas movies at the Uptown this season

Marble Falls Downtown Coordinator Erin Burks (left) and Recreation Coordinator Monique Breaux of invite everyone to free showings of Christmas movies each weekend in December, starting with 'The Grinch' starring Jim Carrey at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, December 7, at the historic Uptown theater, 218 Main St. Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro

Erin Burks and Monique Breaux are as happy as Buddy the Elf this Christmas season.

The reason?

Marble Falls Downtown Coordinator Burks and Breaux of the Parks and Recreation Department collaborated on a schedule of free holiday movies, including "Elf" with Will Ferrell as Buddy, at the historic Uptown theater, 218 Main St.

“It’s about camaraderie, it’s about community, it’s about tradition,” Breaux said about the project.

The free admission was important to the duo.

“We know this time of year is expensive,” Burks said. “We want to have fun activities that don’t cost a lot of money. This gives parents an opportunity to bring their kids downtown.”

In December, downtown Marble Falls will be alive with other fun activities, including a Sip 'N' Stroll on December 6, 13, and 20, carriage rides down Main, an ice skating rink on December 20-22, and Walkway of Lights in nearby Lakeside Park.

“Our goal is to always have an active downtown,” Burks said. “You can come to downtown to eat, shop, and play all in one area. We think of downtown as the heart and soul of the community. We want this to be the hub and the livelihood of the area.”
