Stage lights up again at Globe Theatre
The Globe Theatre in Bertram reopens with live entertainment and Disney film classics starting June 19-20.
To comply with social distancing under COVID-19 restrictions, parties will be placed 6 feet apart with at least two empty seats between groups. On its website, the theater owners reinforced their commitment to ensuring “the venue is cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected properly."
Here’s the summer lineup scheduled so far:
AN EVENING WITH COMEDY
8 p.m. Friday, June 19
The live event features the comedic genius of “Damaged Goods” podcast host Aaron Suarez, a standup comedian and writer who offers his view on everyday life and current events. Other comedians on the bill are Shannon Mugrage, Derek Kopswa, Carter Anderson, Tanveer Arora, Lacey Peah, and La Don Wigz. Austin comedian and sketch writer Sam Noorani hosts. Ages 18 and older. Tickets are $10 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
'THE JUNGLE BOOK' (1967)
4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 20
Based on the 1894 book of the same name, this Disney classic follows the adventures of “man-cub” Mowgli, an orphan raised by wolves in the jungles of India. He is befriended by Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther, who try to convince Mowgli to leave his jungle home to live with other humans before Shere Khan the tiger arrives. The musical comedy features favorites such as “The Bare Necessities.” Two screenings. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and older and $3 for ages 3-12. Purchase tickets online or at the door.

Amarillo’s Roderick McDaniel headlines a night of laughs also featuring Yola Lu, Ben Horn, Blake Bowles, Mack Fitzgerald, Tai Nguyen, and James Carrigan. McDaniel’s personal life provides much of his material as he talks about embarrassing moments in his relationships. Austin comedian and sketch writer Sam Noorani hosts. Ages 18 and older. Tickets are $10 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
'SLEEPING BEAUTY' (1959)
4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18
This Disney classic is based on the tale of Princess Aurora, who was hidden in a forest as a baby by three good fairies hoping to protect her from a terrible curse by an evil fairy. On her 16th birthday, their plans are foiled as Aurora falls in love with a stranger in the forest, pricks her finger on a spinning wheel, and falls into a deep sleep that can only be cured by her true love's kiss. Two screenings. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and older and $3 for ages 3-12. Purchase tickets online or at the door.
BRUCE ROBISON AND KELLY WILLIS
8 p.m. Saturday, August 8
Husband-wife Americana singer-songwriters Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis return to the Globe to kick off its Summer Concert Series. Tickets are $30 general admission or $40 mezzanine. Rescheduled show. Tickets previously purchased will be honored. Doors open at 7 p.m.
DALE WATSON & HIS LONE STARS
8 p.m. Saturday, September 19
Ameripolitan singer-songwriter Dale Watson entertains in this rescheduled show at the Globe. It’ll be difficult to stay seated once Watson and his band take the stage. Tickets are $15 general admission or $25 mezzanine. Tickets previously purchased will be honored. Doors open at 7 p.m.
