Peace and puppy love at Woofstock fundraiser

Woofstock is noon-6 p.m. May 5 at Angel’s Icehouse, 21815 Texas 71 in Spicewood. The event raises money for the Highland Lakes SPCA.

While Cinco de Mayo might be the theme for most restaurants this Sunday, the folks from Highland Lakes SPCA are bringing a different vibe to Angel’s Icehouse in Spicewood with Woofstock.

“The motto for the day is relax and have fun,” board member Jeannette Murphy said. The nonprofit animal shelter’s annual fundraiser is noon to 6 p.m. May 5 at the Spicewood bar and restaurant, 21815 Texas 71. The family-friendly venue is also pet-friendly.

The Highland Lakes SPCA won’t have dogs available for adoption at the event, but people are welcome to bring their canine pals. “It’s about people seeing each other. We have a lot of past adopters who bring their dogs, so there’s a lot of people and dog reunions happening,” Executive Director Karen Reynolds said. Woofstock is free to attend and includes balloon animals and face painting for the kids and live music throughout the day by local bands. Over 15 baskets will be raffled away to lucky winners, and Angel’s donates a percentage of its proceeds that day to the Highland Lakes SPCA. The local SPCA has seen an increase in adoptions in the past year. Funds raised at the event will go toward the care of animals in its shelter.

“Because of public support, we’re able to provide medical care, or, sometimes, it’s behavioral issues,” Reynolds said.

The Highland Lakes SPCA treats dogs with heartworms as well as other medical issues so new owners won’t be burdened with the expense.

You can regularly see the organization’s dogs at local adoption events as well as weekly in the 101HighlandLakes.com newsletter (click the red “Newsletter Signup” box on the website.)

The Highland Lakes SPCA holds adoptions on the second Saturday of the month at The Falls on the Colorado Museum, 2001 Broadway in Marble Falls, and Friday mornings at Numinous Coffee Roasters, 715 RR 1431 in Marble Falls.

Just like the original Woodstock, the May 5 event goes on rain or shine.
