The Hill Country Community Theatre's 38th season features a "Wonderful," "Marvelous" lineup with "Horrors," "A Few Good Men," and a couple of other much-loved stage offerings.

The 2023-24 season opens Sept. 29 and ends Aug. 25. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Individual show tickets are $27 plus fees for adults and $17 plus fees for youths. Season ticket packages are available online or by calling the box office at 830-798-8944.

'Little Shop of Horrors'

Hitting the stage first is this scary-fun musical with a man-eating plant stealing the spotlight.

SUMMARY: "Meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names 'Audrey II' — after his co-worker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out (Seymour) as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time ... Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent toward global domination!"

"It's a Wonderful Life"

The adaptation of Frank Capra's heartwarming holiday classic will be performed as a live radio play with sound affects and 1940s-era, jingle-filled commercials.

SUMMARY: To escape his problem-filled life, George Bailey is thinking about ending it all — at Christmas. Before he is able to jump from a bridge, his guardian angel, Clarence, rescues him and then shows George what his town would be like without all of his good deeds over the years.

"The Marvelous Wonderettes"

The first show of 2024 springs straight from a 1950-60s jukebox.

SUMMARY: This off-Broadway hit begins in the 1950s with four hopeful and musical girls at their high school prom and ends in the 1960s at their class reunion following a decade of highs and lows. No matter what life throws at them, the four conquer it together in this musical trip down memory lane.

"A Few Good Men"

The HCCT presents this dramatic hit by award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and director Aaron Sorkin.

SUMMARY: Set during the trial of two Marines accused of being complicit in a fellow Marine's death. Their "Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover-up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in doing so, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial."

"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"

This q-u-i-r-k-y and r-i-o-t-o-u-s comedy will have audiences in h-y-s-t-e-r-i-c-s.

SUMMARY: "An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vies for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life-un-affirming 'ding' of the bell that signals a spelling mistake."

"Greater Tuna"

And closing out the season are the always wacky inhabitants of Tuna, Texas — "the third-smallest" town in the state.

SUMMARY: Two actors star in this "tour de farce of quick-change artistry, (switching) costumes and characterizations faster than a jackrabbit runs from a coyote."
