Fly Over New York While Remaining in Texas at Hill Country Science Mill Fundraiser Oct. 14
JOHNSON CITY — The Hill Country Science Mill is adding a fourth dimension during its annual benefit Oct. 14.
This year’s theme, “Fly High, Dream Big,” includes the first 4D flying experience in Texas. Through this special technology available this one night, guests will get the chance to experience the thrill of flying like a bird over New York City.
The setup uses a robotic flying platform with virtual reality goggles. As you dive between skyscrapers and maneuver around the Big Apple, you’ll feel the wind in your face as your arms become wings.
The event, held at the Science Mill, 101 S. Lady Bird Lane in Johnson City, also includes an evening of New York-style food, including a hot dog cart, mini-loxes, cheese bagels, Reuben sliders, New York cheesecake, tiramisu, wine, beer, and more.
People can also explore the Science Mill’s interactive exhibits.
“This is our annual fundraiser, and its proceeds are crucial for supporting our core operations,” said Bonnie Baskin, founder of the Science Mill. “To date, over 7,200 kids have received scholarships for Science Mill field trips or camp programs. Twenty-four thousand-plus have come on a field trip or come to camp. Sixty thousand-plus kids have come through the door (overall) since it opened.
“Whether it’s a one-day field trip or a week-long summer camp, kids from all walks of life can come explore, imagine, and create with us,” she added.
The 4D flying starts at 4 p.m. with drinks and food served at 5 p.m. Tickets and sponsorships are available at sciencemill.org/fly-high-dream-big.
People can also chose to simply donate online to the Hill Country Science Mill.
