The classic Christmas movie "It's a Wonderful Life" will be live on stage as a musical at First Baptist Church of Marble Falls.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 9-11, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the church, 901 La Ventana Drive in Marble Falls. Tickets are $5-$20 depending on seating and are available online.

The cast features Joshua Campbell as George Bailey, a role Jimmy Stewart played in the original film, and Anna Stallcup as Mary Bailey, made famous by Donna Reed.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is the story of George Bailey, a man born and raised in the town of Bedford Falls who has dreams of traveling the world. As he’s about to make a break from his hometown, George instead takes over his father’s bank. Over the years, he battles to keep the bank afloat while facing a number of challenges, including rival financier Henry Potter.

One Christmas Eve, faced with the loss of a large amount of money from the bank and a possible criminal investigation, George considers jumping from a nearby bridge under the belief the world would be better off had he never been born. An angel, Clarence Odbody, intervenes and takes George on a reflective journey through a life in Bedford Falls without him.

Though the movie was released in 1946, Jonathan Sultemeier of First Baptist Church said the story still resonates today.

“‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ deals with themes and topics that apply to today’s world and conversations about mental health and suicide, navigating unmet expectations, and finding hope in a loving community,” he said.

The musical follows the movie's storyline with music, warmth, and humor, he said.

“We hope that through the musical, members of the Highland Lakes community will find encouragement and meaning by experiencing this beloved story this Christmas season,” Sultemeier added.
