MARBLE FALLS — It’s time for the annual KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune and The Picayune food drive benefitting The Helping Center of Marble Falls and LACare of Burnet.

The food drive is Nov. 11, but we wanted to give you enough time to gather up some non-perishable food items and make this one of the biggest food drives ever. Cash and check donations will work just as well. In fact, with the purchasing power the two food pantries have, a cash donation might even go a bit further.

But whichever you decide, come on out Nov. 11 and help make this a great holiday season for the folks who depend on the food pantries.

Last year, the Highland Lakes community donated more than $8,000 in food and cash to the food drive. While we often think of Thanksgiving and Christmas as the two main reasons for donating to local food pantries, officials point out they’re always in need of food and donations.

Sam Pearce, executive director of The Helping Center of Marble Falls, explained that the need is actually growing as the center sees more individuals and families looking for assistance.

Hunger, he pointed out, doesn’t end Dec. 26.

But local food pantries typically see increases in demands during the holiday season — several help provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for their clients as well.

So help make a dent in hunger in the community.
