Are You Ready for Llano Library’s Soup-er Bowl?
LLANO — It’s time for the annual super bowl. No, not the one that took place in Minnesota on Feb. 4. This bowl contains tasty soup and supports programs and activities at the Llano County Library.
The 10th annual “Souper” Supper Smack Down is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the library, 102 E. Haynie St.
And unlike the Patriots and the Eagles, you’ll love each competitor in this Friends of the Llano Library competition of homemade soups and stews.
For the price of $10, you get to sample each entry along with homemade bread and sides.
The soups are made by volunteer cooks, who will bring their specialities or try a recipe for the first time, such as Diane Thompson, who is making an Idaho baked potato soup.
“She found this recipe, and she was intrigued by it,” said her husband, Robert, president of the Friends group.
Those attending go through the line to receive sample cups of each soup. Then, they can grab a bowl of their favorite. The soup that receives the most votes wins the title of Soup of the Night.
That’s not the only winner at the event: Every 30 minutes, a door prize will be awarded.
Thompson said people won’t leave disappointed or hungry, and the competition between the cooks is all in good fun.
“Come on down, because I think you’ll enjoy the soups,” he said.
There’s still time to enter your own soup in the Smack Down. Call the Llano County Library at (325) 247-5248 for more information.
