A new holiday memory maker is coming to Marble Falls. The Merry Texmas Ice Skating Rink, a 40-foot-by-40-foot synthetic ice rink will be open free to the public from 6-10 p.m. December 20-22 at the corner of Main and Third streets.

Skates are provided by Amanzi Party Rentals, the company constructing the rink, which is made from a solid polymer material with interlocking panels. The surface is not ice but “realistic,” according to the company.

The rink can accommodate up to 50 skaters at a time. Skaters can show up at 5:30 p.m. each day the rink's open to pick up a free wristband and sign a liability waiver. Wristbands are assigned a 20-minute skating time.

Marble Falls Recreation Coordinator Monique Breaux is excited for the chance to ice skate on a not-so-frigid Texas Hill Country evening.

“How many people have been ice skating?” she asked. “I wanted to bring that to Marble Falls.”

She and Downtown Coordinator Erin Burks were inspired by similar events in the cities of Fredericksburg and Bee Cave. Burks said the ice skating rink is another opportunity to showcase Main Street as “the heart and soul of Marble Falls.”

“They’re going to discover the area in a whole new way,” she said. “They’re going to experience everything downtown.”

Almost a dozen vendors will be on hand selling hot chocolate, popcorn, pralines, toffee, souvenirs, T-shirts, and other items.

“The whole purpose of this activity is to ingrain memories,” Breaux said. “We’re going into a new decade and want to leave 2019 with a bang.”
