One More Holiday Before School: Tax-Free Weekend
MARBLE FALLS — One of the biggest days of the years for parents is the first day of school, which is closely followed by the annual back-to-school sales tax holiday.
The holiday returns Aug. 11-13 for Texas shoppers.
The three-day event suspends sales tax on a number of items typically associated with going back to school. Families can save up to $8 on every $100 they spend.
According to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website, “the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes.”

The sales tax holiday applies to most clothing and shoes with price tags of $100 or less. Even if a person purchases two different items for $60 each, though the final receipt comes out to $120, the sale tax holiday applies to both because they are each less than $100.
Full sales tax is due on any item that costs $100 or more.
The sales tax holiday includes backpacks as well as most school supplies priced less than $100.
