Massive Texas Eclipse festival set for April 2024
Less than a year from now, the Highland Lakes will be ground zero for what is expected to be an incredible view of a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, and a festival of gigantic proportions is in the works. Texas Eclipse, which is set for April 6-8, will take place on the sprawling grounds of Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet County.
While festival details are still being sorted out, promoters predict 50,000-plus attendees for three days of music, art installations, camping, hiking, and food leading up to the actual eclipse. These huge numbers aren’t exaggerated: Burnet County could see an influx of 75,000 visitors due to its proximity to the Austin metropolitan area, according to Hill Country Alliance Night Sky Program Manager Dawn Davies. Plus, it's beautiful here.
The Highland Lakes lies within the “path of totality” of the eclipse, which means anyone in the area will experience roughly four minutes and twenty seconds of full-on solar stoppage at 1:27 p.m. CST on April 8, 2024. A particular region usually sees a total solar eclipse every 350 to 375 years, but an area as small as the Highland Lakes might not see another for millenia.
“Texas Eclipse will be a nexus of cultures, passions and interests; bringing together a curated experience for all to encourage discovery, exploration, and participation,” reads a media release from festival organizers. “In addition to featuring multi-genre world-class music talent, it will also feature the best of Central Texas culture, including interactive art installations and local food and craft vendors. Beginning the weekend before, attendees can camp on the stunning festival grounds to enjoy a host of family-friendly fun, including exciting music performances, mind-blowing space exhibits, and interactive technology activations ahead of the eclipse.”
