For the Rev. Donna Shaw of Weakday Ministries, the organization’s annual Holiday Trio isn’t all about the chili cook-off, the Christmas cookie contest, or tasting those competitions' entries.

It’s about the opportunity to go Christmas caroling and spread holiday joy to others.

“We have a whole lot of fun,” she said with a smile. “We caroled last year in the rain. It’s about coming together and spreading good news and spreading Christmas cheer.”

The Holiday Trio is 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at 312 S. Main St. in Burnet.

The cost to participate in the chili cook-off is $25. For the cookie contest, it's $15. Cooks and bakers can start setting up at 1:30 p.m. Sign up at

“Anybody can judge,” Shaw said. “You get to sample the chili and the cookies. You learn that there are some people who can really cook — and some who can’t. You get to see people’s hidden talents.”

The entry fees help pay for Weakday Ministries’ operation costs.

“We need funding for our community programs,” Shaw said.

Food leftovers will be given to the Burnet Volunteer Fire Department.
