The YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond is in the middle of a fundraising effort to add a teen center onto the Burnet facility, and officials are gambling on your love of a good time to help.

The local YMCA is hosting its second annual Casino Night on Saturday, June 15, from 6-10 PM at the facility. Tickets start at $35 for individuals and $65 for couples and are available online.

The basic ticket includes a barbecue dinner, a 5K gaming chip, and $5 of “funny money” to be used on horse race betting. You can up your game for the night by purchasing one of the VIP packages, which are in addition to your regular ticket.

Since it’s Casino Night, enjoy gambling, horse race betting, and a few carnival games. There’s even a silent auction.

Proceeds from the event support the construction of a teen center at the Burnet facility. The YMCA began fundraising for the center in 2018 with a goal of $430,000. As of April 2019, it had raised approximately $240,000.

YMCA of the Highland Lakes officials realized Burnet-area teens didn't have “their own place." So they want to build a teen center onto the northwest portion of the building.

Casino Night is a great way to help build the center.

While you can purchase tickets at the door, buying them online will speed up check-in the night of the event. VIP upgrades can also be added online. People can also purchase tables for eight at $250 or consider sponsoring a Table for 8 Salute to Veterans at the same cost. The YMCA then will fill those seats with veterans.

Businesses, organizations, or individuals interested in sponsoring the event should contact Jenifer Kenson, the Burnet facility executive director, at (512) 756-6180 or jkenson@ymcagwc.org.

The YMCA of the Highland Lakes is located at 1601 S. Water St. (U.S. 281) in Burnet.
