Churches in the Highland Lakes are especially unique, worshipping in parks, business offices, and public buildings as well as traditional chapels. Churches vary from those that cater to locals and visitors to those that serve bikers and cowboys. Anyone looking for a church home or a church to visit while on vacation will find what they need right here in the Highland Lakes Worship Guide.
Easter is a popular weekend for many churches. You’ll find special services listed in the
Events Calendar or written about on this guide.
Christmas is another popular time for area churches. The annual
Main Street Bethlehem display requires an entire church congregation volunteering over two weekends in December to take visitors to Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’s birth. First United Methodist Church of
Johnson City’s living nativity includes generations of family members.
Area churches also host musical performances, plays, and special events throughout the year.
Outside the sanctuary, you’ll also see church leaders in the community leading a fundraising effort such as the Back to School Blast or hosting fun, family activities such as fall festivals.
Several churches are more than 150 years old, while new ones open every year.
The Highland Lakes Worship Guide covers many of the events, services, and people in churches across the area. As the local source for all things religious in the Highland Lakes, you can count on the Worship Guide when searching for local churches and holiday happenings.
